About the Book
This book was borne through years of working with parents and children. Over that time it became apparent that there were unmet needs in families where a child had been diagnosed with ADHD. A lack of knowledge and specific tools for ADHD was also causing concern for professionals who desperately wanted information on how best to assist these children and families.
The main aim of writing "Every Day with ADHD" was to produce a workable document. It had frustrated me for years that very few people truly understood ADHD and its impact on the child and the family. At times I was annoyed that the only apparent view of the child with ADHD was that of a naughty, far too demanding and uncontrollable child who was heading nowhere. I did not see these children in that way and refused to let others easily adopt that view.
It is the author's belief that the controversial aspects of the existence of ADHD and the use of medication kept the focus away from the child and the family's real issues often preventing any hope of clarity and moving towards a positive outcome.
Along with the need for understanding was a disturbing lack of support for the child and family dealing with ADHD. There were no clear guidelines or behavioural techniques developed specifically for this special child. Parents, teachers and carers options were so limited that it spawned a defeatist attitude. The parenting courses and workshops were developed to offer positive options, alternatives and support surrounding these issues.
This exciting new book has been written for parents, carers and teachers of children with ADHD to help understand the world of their child along with providing workable strategies for every day living.
I am the mother of an ADHD young adult, so this book has been based on my professional and personal experiences incorporating strategies developed and tested over 10 years of facilitation of the 8 week ADHD Parenting Workshops delivered to hundreds of ADD/ADHD families & Professionals.
"Everyday with ADHD" was written as a helpful handbook to be informative, practical and full of realistic hope.
