Why is the condition so difficult to manage?

About 70% of children and adolescents with ADHD will have another neurodevelopmental disorder such as anxiety, tics, motor incoordination, depression, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder and autism spectrum disorder (Multimodal Treatment Study of ADHD (MTA), 1999 MTA Co Operative Group, Archives of General Psychiatry)

Unfortunately, the constant focus on controversies, namely the use of medication and possible misdiagnoses, have taken attention away from the most critical issue – that of behaviourally managing ADHD. Parents and teachers have had great difficulty locating relevant information on behaviour management strategies. This fact is supported by the recent research study by The University of Sydney (refer to page ix of Every Day with ADHD) which clearly shows that parents need more support and are under immense stress because they cannot access practical parenting information about ADHD. Every Day with ADHD confronts the difficult questions and offers parents step-by-step practical parenting strategies for everyday living.
