Living with challenging behaviours is overwhelming. It involves grief, anger, stress, conflict, guilt, feelings of inadequacy, helplessness and hopelessness. For parents it is constant embarrassment, searching and fear of the future (including tomorrow). For professionals it is a complex minefield of behaviours, individuals, parents and families in stress. For those with ADHD/SLD it is confusion, trouble, failure, helplessness and hopelessness often leading to giving up. If left unchecked or mismanaged these conditions, particularly when combined, can lead to a bleak future of disengagement and lack of fulfilment. There is no one to blame. These are hereditary conditions. The brain has developed differently; therefore these individuals see situations differently, hear comments differently; therefore they will, and do, react differently.
